Post-Publication Discussion

Jurnal Computech & Bisnis (JCB), published by STMIK Mardira Indonesia, supports open, constructive, and evidence-based scholarly discussion after publication. The journal recognizes that post-publication discussion contributes to the advancement of knowledge, the verification of research findings, and the continuous improvement of scholarly communication.

JCB provides a mechanism for readers, researchers, authors, and other members of the academic community to raise substantive questions, offer critical comments, clarify interpretations, or identify potential errors in articles published by the journal. All post-publication discussions must be conducted respectfully, objectively, and in accordance with the principles of research integrity and publication ethics.

1. Scope of Post-Publication Discussion

Post-publication discussion may address matters including, but not limited to:

  1. The validity, reliability, or interpretation of research findings.
  2. The appropriateness of research methods, algorithms, experimental designs, statistical analyses, or evaluation procedures.
  3. The reproducibility of computational experiments, software implementations, datasets, or reported results.
  4. Potential errors, inconsistencies, or omissions in the published article.
  5. Questions concerning the availability, integrity, or interpretation of research data, source code, software artifacts, or other supporting materials.
  6. Relevant limitations, alternative interpretations, or implications of the reported findings.
  7. Potential concerns regarding research ethics, originality, attribution, or publication integrity.

Comments should contribute meaningfully to scholarly understanding and should be supported by clear reasoning, relevant evidence, and appropriate references where applicable.

2. Submission of Post-Publication Comments

Individuals wishing to comment on a published JCB article may submit their comments through the journal’s official editorial contact channels or other submission mechanisms designated by the journal.

A submission should include:

  • The title, authors, publication year, and DOI or other identifying information of the article being discussed, where available.
  • The specific issue, claim, result, method, or interpretation being addressed.
  • A clear explanation of the concern, question, criticism, or proposed clarification.
  • Supporting evidence, references, data, or other materials where relevant.
  • The name and affiliation of the commenter and contact information sufficient for editorial correspondence.

The journal may request revisions or additional information before considering a comment for publication. Comments that do not meet the journal’s scholarly, ethical, or editorial requirements may be declined.

3. Editorial Assessment of Comments

All proposed post-publication comments are subject to editorial assessment before publication. The editorial team will consider whether the submission is relevant to the article, scientifically meaningful, supported by evidence, clearly presented, and consistent with the journal’s ethical standards.

Where appropriate, the editor may seek advice from independent subject experts or reviewers. Individuals with relevant conflicts of interest must not participate in the assessment.

The journal may decline comments that are irrelevant, unsupported, defamatory, abusive, misleading, promotional, or otherwise inconsistent with constructive scholarly discussion.

Editorial decisions will be based on the content and merit of the submission rather than the identity, institutional affiliation, or academic status of the commenter.

4. Opportunity for Authors to Respond

When a comment raises substantive questions or criticisms about a published article, JCB may invite the original authors to provide a response.

Authors will be given a reasonable opportunity to address the issues raised, clarify their methods or findings, correct misunderstandings, or acknowledge limitations or errors where appropriate.

The journal may publish the comment and the authors’ response together or in a linked format to provide readers with a balanced and accessible scholarly record. The editor may also decide to publish a comment without an accompanying response when the circumstances justify doing so, including when the authors decline to respond or do not respond within the specified period.

An author’s disagreement with a comment does not, by itself, justify suppressing legitimate scholarly criticism.

5. Standards for Scholarly Conduct

All participants in post-publication discussion must adhere to the following principles:

  1. Accuracy: Claims should be supported by evidence and presented without deliberate misrepresentation.
  2. Respect: Comments and responses must remain professional and focused on scholarly issues.
  3. Transparency: Relevant conflicts of interest must be disclosed.
  4. Confidentiality: Individuals must not disclose confidential editorial or peer-review information without authorization.
  5. Responsible use of evidence: Data, source code, images, and other supporting materials must be handled and presented accurately and in accordance with applicable ethical, legal, privacy, and licensing requirements.
  6. No personal attacks: Criticism must address the research, methods, evidence, or conclusions rather than engage in personal attacks or harassment.

The journal does not consider disagreement with an article’s conclusions to be misconduct in itself. Legitimate scientific debate is encouraged when conducted in a constructive and evidence-based manner.

6. Corrections and Retractions Arising from Post-Publication Discussion

If a post-publication comment identifies a credible concern that may affect the accuracy, reliability, or integrity of a published article, the editorial team will assess the concern in accordance with the journal’s relevant policies.

Depending on the findings, JCB may:

  • Publish a correction when an error can be rectified without invalidating the overall findings or conclusions.
  • Publish an editorial note or expression of concern when a significant issue requires further investigation.
  • Retract the article when the evidence establishes grounds for retraction under the journal’s Correction and Retraction Policy.
  • Publish an author response or editorial clarification to address a substantive scholarly disagreement.

Any corrective action will be proportionate to the nature and seriousness of the concern. The journal will aim to link comments, responses, corrections, and retraction notices to the original article where technically possible.

7. Relationship with Research Misconduct Allegations

Post-publication comments may identify concerns involving plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, image manipulation, undisclosed conflicts of interest, or other possible research misconduct.

When a comment raises a credible allegation of misconduct, the journal will handle the matter under its Allegation of Research Misconduct Policy rather than treating the allegation solely as a scholarly debate.

The journal may request supporting evidence, seek clarification from the authors, consult independent experts, or refer the matter to the relevant institution or competent body when appropriate.

An allegation will not be treated as proof of misconduct without a fair assessment of the available evidence.

8. Publication and Accessibility

Accepted post-publication comments and author responses may be published as separate items or linked to the relevant article, depending on the journal’s publication system and editorial decision.

Where applicable, the published discussion should identify the article under discussion and provide sufficient bibliographic information to support citation and retrieval. The journal will seek to maintain clear links between the original article, the comment, the response, and any subsequent correction or retraction notice.

The publication of a comment does not automatically imply that the journal or the original authors endorse every argument presented in it. Published contributions represent the views and evidence presented by their respective authors, subject to the journal’s editorial standards.

9. Editorial Independence and Fair Treatment

JCB will assess post-publication comments and responses fairly and consistently. The journal will seek to protect the integrity of scholarly debate while ensuring that editorial decisions are not improperly influenced by personal relationships, institutional interests, commercial considerations, or pressure from interested parties.

The journal reserves the right to edit submissions for clarity, length, and compliance with editorial requirements, provided that such editing does not materially distort the author’s intended meaning. Substantive changes may be referred to the contributor for approval.

10. Commitment to Scholarly Dialogue

Jurnal Computech & Bisnis (JCB), published by STMIK Mardira Indonesia, encourages responsible post-publication discussion as part of its commitment to research quality, transparency, accountability, and the continuous development of computer science and informatics scholarship.

By providing a fair process for comments, author responses, and appropriate corrective action, JCB seeks to support constructive scientific dialogue and preserve the reliability of the scholarly record.
