Plagiarism Policy

Jurnal Computech & Bisnis (JCB), published by STMIK Mardira Indonesia, is committed to maintaining academic integrity, originality, and ethical standards in scholarly publishing. Plagiarism and other forms of inappropriate text reuse are considered serious violations of publication ethics and are not tolerated by the journal.

All submitted manuscripts must represent original scholarly work, appropriately acknowledge the contributions of other researchers, and provide accurate citations and references for ideas, text, data, figures, tables, algorithms, software, and other materials derived from existing sources.

1. Definition of Plagiarism

For the purposes of this policy, plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Direct plagiarism: Copying words, sentences, paragraphs, or other material from another source without appropriate quotation, attribution, or citation.
  2. Mosaic plagiarism: Combining or rearranging text, ideas, or expressions from one or more sources without adequate acknowledgment.
  3. Idea plagiarism: Presenting another person’s ideas, research methods, findings, or intellectual contributions as one’s own without proper attribution.
  4. Data, figure, and code plagiarism: Using data, diagrams, figures, tables, source code, algorithms, or other research materials from another source without appropriate acknowledgment or permission where required.
  5. Improper paraphrasing: Rewriting source material while retaining its essential expression or structure without adequate citation.
  6. Self-plagiarism and redundant publication: Reusing substantial portions of one’s previously published work without proper acknowledgment, or submitting or publishing substantially overlapping work without transparent disclosure and appropriate justification.
  7. Unauthorized or misleading attribution: Failing to acknowledge the original source of material or misrepresenting the origin of ideas, data, methods, or other scholarly contributions.

Properly cited quotations, standard technical terminology, and legitimate methodological descriptions are not automatically considered plagiarism. Each case is assessed in its scholarly and editorial context.

2. Similarity Screening

All submitted manuscripts may be screened using Turnitin or another appropriate similarity-detection tool as part of the journal’s initial editorial assessment.

JCB applies an initial overall similarity threshold of 20% as a screening guideline. Manuscripts exceeding this threshold may be returned to the authors for clarification or revision, subjected to further editorial assessment, or rejected when substantial unattributed overlap or other serious concerns are identified.

The similarity score is not, by itself, a definitive measure of plagiarism. Editorial assessment considers the nature, location, extent, and context of the matched text, including whether the overlap occurs in references, properly cited quotations, standard technical terminology, methodological descriptions, or substantive sections of the manuscript.

A manuscript with a similarity score below 20% may still be rejected if it contains plagiarism or other serious forms of inappropriate text reuse. Conversely, a score above 20% does not automatically establish misconduct without contextual assessment.

The journal reserves the right to conduct additional checks when concerns arise during peer review, editorial assessment, or after publication.

3. Authors’ Responsibilities

Authors submitting manuscripts to JCB are responsible for ensuring that:

  1. The submitted work is original and has not been plagiarized from any source.
  2. All sources used in preparing the manuscript are properly cited and included in the reference list.
  3. Direct quotations, paraphrased material, figures, tables, datasets, algorithms, source code, and other third-party materials are appropriately attributed.
  4. Reuse of their own previously published material is disclosed, properly cited, and consistent with applicable copyright and publication requirements.
  5. The manuscript does not constitute duplicate or redundant publication and is not under consideration by another journal at the same time.
  6. Any use of third-party materials complies with applicable licensing and permission requirements.
  7. Any use of generative artificial intelligence or AI-assisted tools is disclosed in accordance with the journal’s AI-use policy, where applicable. AI-generated content does not remove the authors’ responsibility to verify originality, accuracy, attribution, and compliance with publication ethics.

Authors must cooperate with reasonable editorial requests for clarification concerning similarity reports, citations, source materials, or potential overlap with other publications.

4. Editorial Handling of Suspected Plagiarism

When potential plagiarism or inappropriate text reuse is identified, the editorial team will assess the available evidence and determine an appropriate course of action.

Depending on the severity and circumstances, the journal may:

  1. Request an explanation or clarification from the authors.
  2. Return the manuscript for correction of citation or attribution problems.
  3. Require substantial revision before the manuscript can proceed to peer review.
  4. Reject the manuscript when the overlap is substantial, misleading, or inconsistent with the journal’s originality requirements.
  5. Suspend editorial processing while a serious concern is being investigated.
  6. Refer the matter to the relevant institution or organization when warranted and appropriate.

Editorial decisions will be based on the evidence, the seriousness of the concern, the authors’ explanations, and applicable publication-ethics principles. The journal will handle allegations fairly and confidentially to the extent reasonably possible.

5. Actions in Cases of Confirmed Misconduct

If plagiarism or serious inappropriate text reuse is confirmed, JCB may take one or more of the following actions, depending on the circumstances:

  • Reject the submitted manuscript.
  • Withdraw a manuscript from the editorial process.
  • Retract a published article in accordance with the journal’s Correction and Retraction Policy.
  • Publish a correction, editorial notice, or retraction statement when appropriate.
  • Notify the authors’ affiliated institution or other relevant bodies when justified by the evidence and applicable procedures.
  • Restrict future submissions from the responsible authors for a proportionate period in serious or repeated cases, following a fair editorial assessment.

The journal will document significant decisions and provide the authors with an appropriate opportunity to respond, except where urgent action or other legitimate considerations require a different procedure.

6. Plagiarism Detected After Publication

If a concern about plagiarism is raised after publication, the editorial team will assess the allegation and supporting evidence. The journal may contact the authors and, where appropriate, relevant institutions or other parties to clarify the matter.

Depending on the findings, JCB may publish a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction notice. Any action will follow the journal’s Correction and Retraction Policy and will aim to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record.

7. Use of Similarity Reports and Confidentiality

Similarity reports are used as editorial assessment tools and are not treated as automatic evidence of misconduct. Access to reports and related information will be limited to individuals involved in the editorial assessment or investigation, subject to applicable institutional policies and legal requirements.

The journal will not make allegations of misconduct solely on the basis of a similarity percentage or an automated detection result.

8. Commitment to Publication Ethics

Jurnal Computech & Bisnis (JCB), published by STMIK Mardira Indonesia, is committed to handling plagiarism concerns consistently, fairly, and transparently. This policy applies to all submitted manuscripts and published articles, regardless of the authors’ affiliations or academic status.

By submitting a manuscript to JCB, authors acknowledge their responsibility to uphold academic integrity and comply with this policy.
